How to Get The Most Exciting Life Possible

It's been a while since my last post... for most of that time I never thought I'd be writing another post here again. But here I am. A combination of things last spring spurred me into action - feeling particularly low and stuck for several weeks late last winter. 'Is this all my life’s going to be?' started flashing in my head. Panic! Surely not? It simply couldn't be! But what if it was?!Then I had a health scare that could’ve ended badly. Luckily it was good news but I’m actually glad I had the experience because it was the wakeup call I had needed. I had to change my life – superficially everything was alright but it just wasn’t the life I really wanted to live. It was not going to be it!

Soon after a book entered my life. The most important ones always seem to know when they are needed. This time it was
Hal Elrod's 'The Miracle Morning: The 6 Habits That Will Transform Your Life Before 8AM'. As someone who loves her bed in the mornings I wasn’t exactly jumping with joy at the thought of getting up any earlier than I absolutely had to but I was determined to change my life and there was something about the hundreds of Amazon reviews raving about the book that convinced me to try it. And so I started a life changing routine of meditation, affirmations, visualisation, exercising, journaling and reading, i.e. working on myself to become a person who can achieve her dreams.

Miracles did indeed happen, but not before 8am I must admit. I got too tired to get up early. I did try it though and luckily got hooked on the routine so simply started doing it after work on weekdays and weekend mornings. I can honestly say I'm a changed woman. Even I am amazed! Not just because I do the routine most days but because by doing those things regularly I've gained motivation, determination and belief that I can achieve what I really want.

And hey presto – all of a sudden I was excited about what was going on in my life! And it’s not because what I was and am doing is really exciting, it’s because I’m working towards something I really want in this life and all of a sudden it seemed perfectly achievable, so long as I keep on turning up every day and doing what needs to be done.

And so this blog started popping into my head, as it occasionally had during the time when I wasn’t really thinking about it, and it became clear to me that adding some exciting projects and events to your life, which is what I had done before, is just a temporary fix and wouldn't make anyone's life exciting for a very long time, not if the fundamentals in your life aren’t bringing you joy or excitement. With fundamentals I mean what you do for living and what you do when you're not working (hmmm, that then covers just about everything, doesn't it?).

It also dawned on me that to have a fundamentally exciting life you’d pretty much need to be living your dream life.

What a revelation. (Please don’t tell me you had it years ago.)

So what do you do about it?

You decide to start seriously pursuing your dreams and you start working towards them. It really is almost as simple as that. I knew what my dreams were and what I wanted to achieve and had a clear vision. I created an action plan and got on with it.

Why blog about it? Because I don’t feel passionate only about my dreams. I feel passionate about everyone achieving their dreams. I want everyone to think that they can achieve their dreams if they just work towards them. It is possible (well, in most cases. And miracles do happen if you believe in them).

Living your dream life leads to ultimately living the most exciting life possible, surely? Yes!

Take your dreams seriously and treat them with the respect they deserve. What are they, big and small? Write them down and decide that you're going to achieve them or at least give your very best trying. You don't want to die regretting that you didn't, do you?

Dreams do come true. And do please believe in miracles.

Getting started

It’s been far too long since my first post. How did this happen? Well, I sort of panicked, thinking ‘oh no, now the blog is live, I’m going to have to do something!’ and then of course froze and did nothing. Hence a little cooling down period. Or should I say thawing period, allowing myself to return to a temperature in which I can function. I do have an excuse of being unwell over the last few days so I couldn’t have gone out last weekend anyway, but that’s just really lame. I shouldn’t even have mentioned it. I’m happy to report though that immediately after posting my first blog post, I seemed to develop an ‘excitement awareness’ and started coming up with ideas of what to do and even started a list. An idea of a holiday I’ve been wanting to go on for a few years now sprang to mind and I started looking into it. In fact, booking it was going be my task for the first week. What happened? My recurring health problems held me back. But then another thought came to mind. What if I use...

Making 2014 count

Christmas tree in Covent Garden, London You may have noticed the lack of images of Christmas trees here (see my previous post) . I did take some, they just never made it here until today (I’m putting one up now to show that I really took some). Stress took over in December. Work was very busy and come evening all I wanted to do was to forget about doing anything unpleasant and just do what I fancied. And it wasn't blogging. At first I was stressing about not producing any content for my blog and then I started questioning whether the whole blog was a very good idea after all. Yes, over the holidays I was seriously considering deleting this blog. My two blog posts that I’d crafted with care and excitement and fear, too. No more. Then I wouldn’t need to stress about blogging. But then the year changed and I was setting goals for the new year and came across the question of the blog; yes or no? It would’ve been much easier to decide ‘no’ but somehow I couldn’t let myself do that...

Bucket loads of fun

I'm taking my list of things to do by the end of the summer to a whole new level. I'm going to create a bucket list. You know, things you want to do before you die. In a way not a very cheerful thought but at the same time quite elating, I find. I have a list of goals I want to achieve somewhere and even though I'm sure it's titled 'Things I want to be/do/have before I die', it just doesn't quite have the same ring to it as a bucket list does. There's an urgency attached to 'bucket list' that appeals to me right now. Something that I hope will keep it from getting buried under a pile of invoices, bank statements, to do lists etc. I'm very aware that the reason I'm thinking about writing my bucket list is because of the mid-life crisis I'm going through and the slightly panicked thoughts I'm having at times, such as 'there's not much time left anymore while I'm still more or less able' which is sort of ridiculous ...
