Fun winter projects

Winter's my least favourite season, I'm really not a winter person at all. I come from a country where winters are cold and long with lots of snow and I used to find it so depressing at times that it made me cry and feel that I was held a prisoner by the snow and cold and that there was no way out. I think it's quite safe to say that I have seasonal affective disorder but I'm also happy to say that living in London where winters are quite mild has cured me of it. Mostly. I still find that winter makes me want to hibernate a bit, you know that feeling when you just want to curl up under your duvet and never get out of bed till it's March and there's some spring in the air? Doesn't exactly spell exciting so I'm thinking that having some projects to work on during these winter months would be a good way to distract myself from thinking about the dark and cold so much and would give me something fun to do. So I've put my thinking cap on, as you do. Thin...

A hiker on a beach holiday

I'm happy to report that even though it's been quite a hectic week, I also managed to do some exciting things, or things that weren't particularly exciting but will hopefully lead to exciting things. I've joined an outdoor group. I like hiking, during my years living in Scotland I did that quite regularly and even bagged a couple of munros, and I've also been on hiking holidays in Tenerife, Mallorca and the southwest US. Weirdly enough, I haven't done any hiking in England in all my years of living in London. It's time to change that. I found this outdoor group nearby where I live which was organising a meeting for new members and I signed up for it well in advance. Easy peasy, a couple of clicks on my laptop and it was done. But this week, when the event started getting closer, I wasn't that enthusiastic about it anymore. It now actually meant that I needed to leave my warm and cosy home one night and go out in the dark. What? Leave the comfortabl...

Now let's set some exciting goals for 2015!

It's 2015! Dare I admit that I'm not a person who gets very excited about celebrating the end of one year and the start of another? Quite the opposite in fact, it just upsets me that another year is gone again, that time is rolling on, yada yada... With an attitude like this, I hear you thinking, no wonder I'm in the predicament of leading a boring life in the first place. I couldn't agree with you more. In my defence I must say that this year on NYE I was a bit jetlagged having just returned from a holiday in Mexico (!!! see, I can do exciting stuff! More about it in my next post.) two days earlier so I was tired and, gulp, in bed before midnight. The only fireworks I saw were on telly. Image: Happy New Year! by Swallowtail Garden Seeds on Flickr I do find that a calendar year is an excellent unit for setting goals though so that is one thing I like about the start of a new year; setting new goals to achieve in the year ahead. I don't like calling them reso...
